Evanescence odehráli pro poloprázdný sál své nejlepší tuzemské vystoupení
Američtí Evanescence se po čtyřech letech vrátili do Prahy. Nepodařilo se jim sice koncert vyprodat jako naposledy, když hráli s orchestrem v Kongresovém centru, ale spádu večera to nijak nevadilo. Co se týče energie i nasazení, tak není pochyb o tom, že za sebou mají vůbec nejsilnější tuzemské vystoupení.
Poloprázdné Fórum Karlín dokládá, že Evanescence už možná nemají v Česku tak početnou fanouškovskou základnu jako v minulosti, ale divákům, kteří přišli, nezůstala kapela vůbec nic dlužna. Koncert byl v podstatě takovým setkáním starých přátel, kteří se po čase sešli, aby si řekli, co je nového. A navzdory dlouhé době, kdy se neviděli, si vzájemně stále mají mnoho co říct. Snad i proto frontwoman Amy Lee zmínila, že se do Prahy velmi ráda vrací, přičemž zdůraznila, že to opravdu není fráze, kterou by opakovala při každé štaci. Dokonce prý osobně trvala na tom, že Praha musí v aktuálním turné figurovat.
Co se týče písní, hlavní slovo měl samozřejmě materiál z loňského alba The Bitter Truth, které Evanescence vyjma dvou skladeb odehráli v kompletní šíři. Novinky starší kusy dobře doplnily, zejména ty, které se trochu vymykají typickému zvuku kapely – tradičnější rocková balada Wasted On You či burácivý protestsong Use My Voice byly jedněmi z mnoha vrcholů večera. Obzvlášť druhá z nich je se svým refrénem vyloženě ambiciózní stadionová hymna, při níž je účast publika takřka nutná. Nejvíc ale diváci samozřejmě buráceli při osvědčených hitech z debutové desky Fallen, na Bring Me To Life či My Immortal nepochybně čekali úplně všichni.
Slyšet songy z aktuálního alba bylo osvěžující. Mimo jiné i proto, že jde o jedny z pěvecky nejtěžších kusů, které mají Evanescence v zásobě. Amy Lee je však zvládla uzpívat s přehledem a až na drobné nuance a odchylky ustála i nejnáročnější výšky. Opět mi tím připomněla, že se technicky pořád posouvá a zdokonaluje, což je něco, co dokážu poměrně s jistotou říct.
Od roku 2012, kdy hráli Evanescence v Česku a Praze vůbec poprvé, jsem totiž nevynechal jediný jejich koncert. A pokaždé jsem cítil, že jsou si jako kapela zase o něco jistější, v energii bouřlivější a technicky přesnější. Z tohohle hlediska bylo poslední vystoupení jednoznačně jejich nejpreciznější, za nejemotivnější ale zcela logicky považuju to úplně první. Za těch 10 letech proběhla v kapele nějaká ta škatulata a i na aktuální šňůře se vůbec poprvé představila nová baskytaristka Emma Anzai ze Sick Puppies. Aktuální sestava má fungující dynamiku a pozorovat kromě Amy Lee třeba bubeníka Willa Hunta, který ze sebe na pódiu nechává absolutně vše, je zážitek.
Zároveň si nedělám absolutní iluze. Evanescence za těch 10 let vyrostli jako kapela z technického hlediska, ale díru do světa už nejspíš neudělají. A lidé na ně kvůli tomu asi ani nechodí. Je v tom spíš určitý mix nostalgie k začátku milénia, kdy byli Evanescence úplně všude, a samozřejmě ryzí fanouškovství. I tak má ale kapela pořád co říct, i když třeba jen menšímu okruhu lidí. A nakonec je úplně jedno, jestli hrajou pro tisíc nebo pět tisíc posluchačů. Hrají poctivě, umí rozproudit energii a strhnout. A o to jde především.

Evanescence Played Their Best Local Show to a Half-Empty Hall
American band Evanescence returned to Prague after four years. Although they did not manage to sell out the concert as they did last time when they played with an orchestra at the Congress Center, it did not affect the flow of the evening. In terms of energy and commitment, there is no doubt that this was their strongest local performance.
The half-empty Forum Karlín indicates that Evanescence might no longer have as large a fan base in the Czech Republic as they used to, but the band did not leave the audience disappointed. The concert was essentially a reunion of old friends who came together to share what’s new. Despite the long time since they last saw each other, they still had much to say to each other. Perhaps this is why frontwoman Amy Lee mentioned that she loves returning to Prague, emphasizing that it’s not just a phrase she repeats at every stop. She even insisted that Prague be included in their current tour.
Regarding the songs, the main focus was on material from last year’s album "The Bitter Truth," which Evanescence played almost in its entirety, except for two tracks. The new songs complemented the older ones well, especially those that deviate a bit from the band's typical sound – the more traditional rock ballad "Wasted On You" or the thunderous protest song "Use My Voice" were among the many highlights of the evening. Particularly the latter, with its chorus, is an ambitious stadium anthem that almost needs audience participation. However, the audience roared the loudest during proven hits from the debut album "Fallen"; everyone undoubtedly awaited "Bring Me To Life" and "My Immortal."
Hearing songs from the current album was refreshing. Partly because they are some of the most vocally challenging pieces Evanescence has in their repertoire. Amy Lee handled them with ease, managing even the most demanding high notes with only minor nuances and deviations. She reminded me once again that she continues to improve and perfect her technique, something I can say with a fair degree of certainty.
Since 2012, when Evanescence played in the Czech Republic and Prague for the first time, I have not missed a single one of their concerts. Each time, I felt that they became more confident as a band, more energetic, and technically precise. From this perspective, the last performance was undoubtedly their most precise, but logically, I consider the very first one the most emotional. Over the past 10 years, there have been some lineup changes, and on the current tour, the new bassist Emma Anzai from Sick Puppies was introduced for the first time. The current lineup has a working dynamic, and watching not only Amy Lee but also drummer Will Hunt, who gives absolutely everything on stage, is an experience.
At the same time, I have no illusions. Evanescence has grown as a band over the past 10 years from a technical standpoint, but they probably won’t make a significant impact on the world anymore. And people probably don’t come to see them because of that. It’s more about a mix of nostalgia for the early 2000s when Evanescence was everywhere, and of course pure fandom. Even so, the band still has something to say, even if it’s to a smaller audience. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter whether they play for a thousand or five thousand listeners. They play honestly, know how to energize and captivate. And that’s what matters the most.
